Movember hockey: Phantoms, Wranglers wear hairy sweaters; Monarchs get musical

There are seven days left in November, which means that the glorious mustaches around the world don't have much time left to flourish as Movember comes to an end.

Movember, you'll recall, is the annual fundraiser held every November where participants grow mustaches and raise money and awareness for awareness and funds for men's health issues. We spoke with George Parros of the Florida Panthers (how weird is it to write that now?) earlier this month about his battle against Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mike Brown.

Two minor league teams are doing their part in promoting Movember over the next week. Both the Adirondack Phantoms and the Las Vegas Wranglers will sport special jerseys featuring mo's to raise funds for charity.

The Wrangers have been featured here several times in the past for their unique promotions. Here we feel they could have gone a bit crazier with their Movember jersey design.

An auction after the game will benefit Nevada Cancer Coalition, a non-profit organization that combines state-wide resources to help prevent, early detect and treat cancer.

The Phantom, affiliates of the Philadelphia Flyers, have been tracking the progress of players throughout this month with unsurprising results. Marc-Andre Bourdon? Great mo. Sean Couturier? Sean White clone. Brayden Schenn? Well, are we sure he's even participating?

On Saturday, the Phantoms will sport these jerseys:

From Bob Rotruck of the Phantoms:

Part of the proceeds of the post-game jersey auction to benefit the C.R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital.

Fans are also donating to cans in our front lobby that have each player's picture on it...which we update each week as the mustache grows. Our mustache donation site for any fan who wants to contribute to Mens' Cancer Issues and Awareness is mobro.co/phantomshockey.

We came up with the idea back in the summer at our team's planning meeting as a fun thing to do during our big Phantoms Fight Cancer month. Previously, a handful of guys would grow mustaches for the Movember initiative. But now that we developed it and pushed it out there to our fans and told the players we are really selling it they have very much taken to it. A majority of the players and front-office staff have mustaches going this month.

Meanwhile, the Manchester Monarchs showed off their "musical" sides express their joy in growing mo's.
