Mike Reilly expected to sign with Minnesota Wild: Report

Mike Reilly has made his decision and he will be signing with the Minnesota Wild.

According to Mike Russo of the Star Tribune, Reilly will ink a two-year, $1.85 million deal with bonuses after becoming a free agent last week after failing to agree to terms with the Columbus Blue Jackets, the team that drafted him in 2011.

The Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins were among the finalists for Reilly’s signature.

Reilly grew up in Minnesota and played the last three years for the Golden Gophers, where he was the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and a Hobey Baker Award finalist this past season. His dad, Michael, is a minority investor with the Wild.

He’ll get a shot to make the NHL roster during training camp. The Wild currently have five defensemen under contract for next season. So does Reilly’s signing mean GM Chuck Fletcher may look to move one of his blueliners this weekend in Sunrise -- like maybe Jared Spurgeon?
