Buffalo's Michal Neuvirth fined $2,000 for diving/embellishment

A goaltender fined for diving/embellishment? That’s something. It happened with Buffalo’s Michal Neuvirth, who was fined $2,000 space bucks by the NHL.

From the NHL on Neuvirth’s transgressions:

Neuvirth was issued a Warning following an incident flagged by NHL Hockey Operations during NHL Game No. 251 vs. Toronto on Nov. 15. His second Citation, which triggered the $2,000 fine, was issued for an incident during NHL Game No. 886 vs. Nashville on Feb. 22. Predators forward Mike Santorelli received a minor penalty for interference on the goaltender on the play, at 2:23 of the second period.

This is a fascinating gray area, only because goaltenders tend to flop a lot, in order to make saves, and well … clearly for this as well.  Considering the fact NHL players make millions, a lot of this is to shame players publicly and add some extra transparency to the process. Does it work? Who knows. But it's new for this season and you have to try something.

So congrats Michal Neuvirth. You’re the first goaltender to be hit with this.
