Martin Brodeur had 688 wins for the New Jersey Devils in 21 seasons.

Now he was one in another uniform.

Brodeur made 13 saves in relief of Jake Allen, helping the Blues rally from a 3-0 deficit to defeat the red-hot New York Islanders, 6-4. He entered the game to start the second period after Allen was lit up for three goals on 12 shots and made some key stops in the third period.

His entry into the game sparked the team, as the Blues scored three goals in 12:34 in the second to tie it up, 3-3. Brodeur’s lone goal allowed was with 54 seconds left in the period, as John Tavares crashed the net and popped the puck off his glove. The goal came on a power play that was set up by a phantom tripping call on Paul Stastny.

(Rough one for Tim Peel and the officiating crew, who also missed a rather egregious elbow to the head of Carl Gunnarson that knocked him out of the game.)

Brodeur turned back seven shots in the third period, including a point blank attempt from Kyle Okposo and other strong stops:

T.J. Oshie, Paul Stastny (with two goals in the game) and Vladimir Tarasenko had the goals in the third period.

It was the second appearance for Brodeur with the Blues, having been signed by the team earlier this week. He gave up four goals on 24 shots against the Nashville Predators on Dec. 4. After that game, Brodeur said the Blues’ skills players were a goalie’s best friend.

"We have skilled players who make plays," Brodeur said. "These guys are talented. Sometimes it is good and sometimes we make mistakes. I am really happy with the way the guys played in front of me.”

Those players came through for him, and now he’s 11 wins away from 700.

Oh, and $20,000 richer. Brodeur gets that bonus for every victory.
