Mark Scheifele falls on his own, Stephen Gionta given tripping penalty (Video)

Midway through the first period of Sunday's New Jersey-Winnipeg game, Devils forward Stephen Gionta was whistled for a tripping Mark Scheifele of the Jets. Everyone inside MTS Centre was quite baffled at the call for good reason: Scheifele went down untouched:

We've seen some bad call in the NHL over the years, but this one is pretty special. That wasn't even in the "maybe tried to take a dive?" territory. Clearly Scheifele was turning his skates to receive the pass and just took a spill like Bambi getting its legs underneath it; or that guy in your beer league every week.

Fortunately for the Devils, the Jets didn't score on the ensuing power play. They didn't even manage a shot on Cory Schneider.
