KHL player scores own goal with great backhand shelf move (Video)

SKA needed overtime to beat Traktor 3-2 on Friday in the KHL, but without a second period own goal, they could have wrapped up the points in regulation.

With the score tied at one in the middle frame, Traktor forced a neutral zone turnover and took possession into the SKA zone. The puck squirted out in front of Mikko Koskinen’s net where Evgeny Ketov grabbed it.

In a quick-thinking move to try and just get the puck away from the front of SKA’s net, Ketov went backhand shelf for a beautiful accidental own goal.

"We all understand that it happens in hockey," Ketov told SovSport. "There are guys who scored an own goal, this is purely a matter of chance. Upset, of course, I did not expect this."

Frans Nielsen would be proud of that one.
