KHL player Mikhail Anisin hospitalizes teammate, has contract terminated

Mikhail Anisin is a winger in the KHL who had bounced around like a loose puck for the last four seasons, playing for seven teams (inducing Severstal, twice) before landing with Donbass Donetsk in a trade this season.

One of his teammates with Donbass is Sergei Varlamov – not the Avalanche goalie, but the winger who played parts of four NHL seasons with the Calgary Flames and St. Louis Blues from 1999-2003. Also, the Avalanche goalie's name is Semyon. So, duh.

But recently, Anisin did something very un-teammately to Varlamov: Allegedly beating him up.

As of Saturday, Varlamov is in the hospital, and Anisin’s contract has been terminated because of an incident between the two on either Thursday or Friday:

Via R-Sport:

A talented but troubled star of Eastern Europe’s KHL hockey league has left his team after hospitalizing a fellow player in a fight, a source with knowledge of the situation told R-Sport on Saturday.

Mikhail Anisin, 25, was the top scorer in the 2011-12 playoffs as he took Dynamo Moscow to its first KHL championship, but went on strike soon afterwards, and has changed teams three times since then, most recently to Ukraine’s Donbass Donetsk.

The diminutive wing came to blows with his Donbass teammate Sergei Varlamov on Saturday in a brawl that left Varlamov in hospital and spurred Anisin to leave the team, traveling to Moscow, the source said. It was not immediately clear what prompted the fight. Anisin’s future at Donbass will be decided by head coach Andrei Nazarov, the source said.

According to Russian media reports, the two had a fight at a night club in Ufa, although the motivations behind the fight have yet to be determined. Varlamov was hospitalized with a concussion.

This news report, via SovSport, appears to show an intoxicated Anisin after receiving medical treatment:

Anisin, who had played just six games with Donbass, left the team after the incident; on Saturday, the Ukrainian team announced that it was terminating his contract. Because beating up your teammates is generally frowned upon.

In case you were wondering, Donbass is coached by Andrei Nazarov, which explains a lot.

Fair thee well Mikhail Anisin, voice of an angel:
