Jordan Eberle injured in Oilers’ preseason game, panic ensues

This was supposed to be a great time of the year for Edmonton Oilers fans. The fresh new-car smell of Connor McDavid. The promise of a new day from the GM and the coach. The fact that they’ve yet to lose a game. Yet.

And then Jordan Eberle has to go and get injured.

The Oilers were facing the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night when Kyle Chipchura collided with him. Eberle went into the boards -- shoulder first, innocently but awkwardly -- and left for the dressing room.

Here's the play, via My Regular Face:

Ryan Rishaug of TSN reports that Eberle’s arm was in a sling after the game.

Jason Gregor of Oilers Nation offered this postgame report:

Todd McLellan said he will know more about Eberle tomorrow, but he definitely will not be practicing. "It is not good," I was told regarding the injury. How not good is too early to tell, but it doesn't sounds like he will be out longer than simply day-to-day. It puts a damper on what has been a very positive preseason thus far for the Oilers. Eberle is one of their best players, and losing him for an extended period of time would be a huge blow.

Eberle has missed just seven games since 2011.

As Gregor notes, if Eberle misses significant time, it falls to Nail Yakupov, Anton Slepyshev and Teddy Purcell to step up and make a difference on the right side.

So get well soon, Jordan.
