John Moore ejected after elbowing Dale Weise; supplemental discipline coming? (Video)

The New York Rangers failed to close out the Montreal Canadiens Tuesday night, dropping Game 5 7-4. When they try again to advance to the Stanley Cup Final in Game 6 Thursday, they’ll potentially do so without defenseman John Moore.

As the Canadiens held a 6-4 lead midway through the third period, Moore came across the neutral zone and hit Dale Weise up high:

Moore was assessed a five-minute match penalty for elbowing and game misconduct. The match penalty comes with an automatic suspension pending a review. Weise missed a few shifts before returning to the game.

After Brandon Prust was given two games for his hit on Derek Stepan in Game 2, Habs fans will likely want something similar. Does Moore deserve it?

The hit wasn't as late as Prust's and while Moore's likely intention was to drive through Weise's chest, he gets him up high, possibly making contact with the head. There's been no report of an injury for Weise yet, but as you'll recall from the Joe Thornton/David Perron incident, signs may not show immediately.

Our guess? Moore misses Game 6 and potentially gets an extra game if anything serious turns up with Weise.
