Joel Quenneville goes 'bananas' over disallowed goal (Video)

Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for yelling at official Marc Joanette in the first period of his team’s 5-4 overtime win over the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday.

This came after a goal by Marian Hossa at the 15:40 mark was overturned by a coach’s challenge from the Arizona Coyotes. After a review it was deemed Hossa interfered with Coyotes goaltender Louis Domingue.

Here is the explanation from the NHL:

The Referee determined that Hossa interfered with Domingue before the puck crossed the goal line. According to Rule 78.7, "The standard for overturning the call in the event of a 'GOAL' call on the ice is that the Referee, after reviewing any and all available replays and consulting with the Toronto Video Room, determines that the goal should have been disallowed due to 'Interference on the Goalkeeper,' as described in Rules 69.1, 69.3 and 69.4."

This led to Quenneville’s on-bench explosion at Joanette and his eventual penalty. After the game, Hossa said Quenneville went "bananas."

Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson fired goal on the ensuing power play. Hossa scored Chicago’s first goal of the game near the beginning of the second period. Chicago captain Jonathan Toews scored the game winner in overtime.

Said Toews after the game, "I guess we used the frustration the right way."

You just have to realize some calls are going to go against you whether you agree with it or not. It is what it is as they say, and you just have to keep playing."
