James Wisniewski tears ACL in Hurricanes debut, out six months (Video)

James Wisniewski's debut season with the Carolina Hurricanes lasted all of 47-seconds.

Nashville Predators forward Viktor Arvidsson (who?!) is battling with Wisniewski for the puck when he gets tangled up with the lower body of Wiz. As the defenseman hits against the boards, the weight and momentum of Arvidsson pushes his left knee in a direction it's not supposed to bend.

WARNING: The injury is kind of gnarly. I dry heaved a little when I watched it.

Wisniewski had to be helped off the ice by his teammates. It was later announced he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on the play and will be out approximately six months. That would place his return to the ice around mid-April. Unless they prove most of the prognosticators wrong, the 'Canes probably won't be playing at that time.

Carolina acquired Wisniewski in the off-season from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for goaltender Anton Khudobin. The team has called up Danny Biega from their AHL affiliate in Carlotte. Biega, 24, has 10 games of NHL experience.
