Hilary Knight's OT goal gives U.S. Four Nations Cup title over Canada
For the 18th time since it began in 1996, the U.S. and Canada met in the final of the Four Nations Cup, the annual women’s tournament.
And for the third time in five years and sixth time overall, the Americans came out on top. On Sunday in Sundsvall, Sweden, Hilary Knight needed all of 36 seconds of overtime to give the U.S. a 3-2 win and the title.
Knight, who plays for the Boston Pride of the on-break NWHL, also assisted on one of Brianna Decker’s two goals in the game.
The Americans finished the tournament undefeated with goaltenders Brianne McLaughlin-Bittle and Jessie Vetter each pitching shutouts
The teams exchanged early power play goals in the second period before Canada took a 2-1 lead thanks to Meghan Agosta’s goal. In the third period, Decker evened the scored 1:46, setting the stage for Knight’s winner following a great feed by Kelli Stack, who was the tournament's leading scorer with eight points and named top forward.
