High school hockey fan attacks security guard during ejection (Video)

Jim Binns was surprised the video hadn’t gotten out into the slipstream of social media yet, given the incident:

A high school hockey student fan, while being ejected from a Friday night game, begins viciously punching a man claiming to be a security guard at Iceline rink in West Chester, Pa. The cell phone footage shows the guard grabbing the student, the student belligerently asking him not to put his hands on him, several punches from the fan connecting with the man, before the two end up in a pile on the stairs.

“I know there are a couple of videos floating around," asked Binns, general manager at Iceline, "was this one about 30 seconds in length? Does the young man ask who is escorting him out, and the man says ‘security’? Or is it a shorter video?”

Yep. That’s the one.

The incident happened last Friday, November 15, at a game between Unionville High School (5-0-1) and Great Valley High School. Binns said there was police involvement with the fan, who is a minor.

He said the rink took no action against the security guard because “based on the video and based on reports, it doesn’t seem warranted.”

He said there are some shorter videos on social media that seem to incriminate the guard, but Binn believes the guard was in the right, in a situation that his rink hasn’t seen during his tenure as general manager.

“I’ve been here since 1997. It’s the first time we’ve had a fan punch a member of the security staff,” he said.

“Both high school programs, historically, have been very compliant. It was a very minor issue that escalated quickly. He should have just been escorted out of the building and gone home.”
