Goalie Mikko Koskinen makes behind the back knob save in KHL (Video)

Carter Hutton of the Nashville Predators set the bar for stick saves this season, so this stop from Mikko Koskinen might pale in comparison. But still, it’s awesome.

Koskinen plays for SKA in the Kontinental Hockey League. In a game against Osmk on Wednesday, there was a scramble in front of his crease. Anton Kuryanov nearly had the highlight of the match with a between the legs shot that Koskinen turned aside.

Then it was the goalie’s turn. A bouncing puck to his right snuck behind him and was headed for the net. Koskinen had the alertness to use the knob of his stick to sweep the puck out of harm’s way.

Luckily, there were no attacking forwards there to collect the rebound or defenseman’s skate for it to hit.

Mikko Koskinen is a 26-year-old Finnish goalie who has played in the KHL for the last two seasons. He was drafted in the second round of the 2009 NHL Draft by the New York Islanders and played four games with them in 2010-11, along with parts of three seasons in the AHL and ECHL.
