Forget about trying to find 2015 Winter Classic tickets

WASHINGTON, DC – Head out of the Metro station for any Washington Capitals game at Verizon Center, and you’ll find dozens of scalpers offering up tickets to that evening’s game.

There are scalpers here at D.C.’s Winter Classic too; except they’re hoping to buy, not sell.

On New Year’s Day at Nationals Park, Washington Capitals and Chicago Blackhawks fans have purchased their tickets and they’re not giving them up. Scalpers around the park were in need of tickets to resell.

As of 11 a.m., two hours before the scheduled puck drop, there were no tickets available to the game via SeatGeek.com, which is a ticket search engine.

At the same time, there were just 73 tickets remaining on StubHub.com. The highest priced seats were $1,200 per ticket for a field box.

Because of the stadium’s capacity – around 42,000 fans – the demand for tickets has been at record highs in the weeks leading up to the game. From TiqIQ, the prices on the secondary market for tickets are higher than any of the four previous Winter Classics:

By the way, the photo featured up top is from the last seat of the last row of the upper deck in left field at Nationals Park.

As you can see, there aren’t many bad seats in the house.
