Flyers drop perfect ‘Walking Dead’ joke, destroy Wings fan Steven Yeun

Walking Dead

The Philadelphia Flyers battle the Detroit Red Wings on RIVALRY NIGHT, and it’s a game with major playoff implications for both squads. Obviously, they need all the support they can get from their fans.

Hence, actor Steven Yeun, who plays Glenn on AMC’s zombie hit “The Walking Dead,” decided to tweet in support of his favorite team ahead of their showdown with the Flyers.

This opened him up for one of the most devastating pop culture-based retorts we’ve ever witnessed:

For the uninitiated (and SPOILERS AHEAD):

“The Walking Dead” recently introduced a villain named Negan whose shtick includes wielding a barb-wired baseball bat named “Lucille.” The show ended its most recent season on Sunday with a (much-maligned) cliffhanger in which Negan bludgeoned one of the main cast members to death with said bat, but we didn't find out who. In the comic book that inspired the show, however, Negan’s victim of choice is, in fact, Glenn.

So this is a deep cut home run of a reference in response to a celebrity Red Wings fan, and even Steven Yeun had to acknowledge it:

Should be a fun one between Detroit and Philadelphia on Wednesday night. And unlike “The Walking Dead” finale, it’ll actually have a definitive ending, rather than being an hours-long distraction while the producers figure out who’s too expensive to bring back next season …
