Florida Panthers owner suing to recoup investment in porn, dating sites

Jordan Zimmerman, a minority owner of the Florida Panthers, is suing two Boca Raton businessmen to recoup $1 million he invested in their company around five years ago.

Their company, incidentally, being a collection of websites dedicated to porn, sex fetishes and adult dating. Now where the heck was that giveaway night at Panthers home games ...

According to Gossip Extra, via the Broward Palm Beach New Times, Zimmerman and Al Malnik filed suit in Palm Beach County circuit court claiming they gave Marc Bell and Dan Staton approximately $1 million each to invest in FriendFinder, a network of sites that range from the Christian dating site Big Church to Cams.com, “the Internet’s premiere destination for live adult entertainment.”

But instead of investing that money in their network, the suit claims Bell and Staton used the money as a deposit on another company they eventually failed to purchase. Zimmerman and his partner claim it’s a bait and switch. The lawyer for the defendants said:

They’re out of luck, said attorney Gerry Richman, who reps Bell and Staton.

“This was a sophisticated transaction that was fully documented. The investors took their chances. Nobody was deceived,” Richman said. “The plaintiffs are basically saying ‘Gee, we didn’t read the documents.’ Malnik’s a brilliant lawyer, and I’m sure he read everything. There was to be a significant upside to the investment and that just didn’t happen.”

There’s nothing all that nefarious about investing in an Internet network that contains pornography; hell, compared to some of the financial boneheads that the NHL allowed into its ownership groups, this is would be a sound investment by comparison.

But we’re sure someone out there will be offended that the Panthers have an owner who invests in porn when they should really be offended by that Ed Jovanovski contract, which is much more obscene.

However, were we to root for any party in this dispute, it would be Zimmerman and his partner, if only because those Adult Friend Finder pop-up ads are so intrusive and annoying when we’re other people who are obviously perverts are watching online pornography.
