Evgeni Malkin has concussion symptoms after Erik Gudbranson hit: Report
The words “concussion-like symptoms” are something Pittsburgh Penguins fans – hell, all NHL fans – cringe after hearing. Now they’re being applied to Evgeni Malkin of the Penguins, following a high-speed collision with the end boards in their 3-1 win over the Florida Panthers on Friday night.
With 15:09 left in the third period, Malkin was skating deep into the Panthers zone when Gudbranson shoved him. The Penguins star tumbled to the ice, his back striking the boards before his head violently snapped back against them.
Rob Rossi of the Tribune Review reports that Malkin is “experiencing concussion symptoms, including severe headache and mild disorientation.”

Malkin was slated for further medical evaluation Saturday, coach Dan Bylsma said after the game Friday night. Malkin was not available for comment.
He is not expected to play against Tampa Bay at home on Sunday night, the sources said.
… “I just finished my check,” Gudbranson said. “You never want to see a guy go down. He’s in a vulnerable position. But you can’t pass up a hit.
“It’s unfortunate that he got hurt on the play, but it’s one I’d take every time.”
The Penguins face Tampa Bay at home on Sunday and then leave for a 3-game road trip.
