Dion Phaneuf gets 2-game suspension for boarding Kevan Miller, which is about right
In the latest edition of “Bruins-related NHL suspensions,” Dion Phaneuf of the Toronto Maple Leafs was given a completely appropriate two games from the NHL for a hit from behind on Kevan Miller of the Boston Bruins, a team that’s been involved in no less than three supplemental discipline incidents in the last four days.
Phaneuf was suspended for this hit on Miller in Sunday’s Bruins victory at the Leafs:

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Dion Phaneuf has been suspended for two games, without pay, for boarding Boston Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller during NHL Game No. 450 in Toronto on Sunday, Dec. 8, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.
The incident occurred at 17:43 of the third period. No penalty was assessed to Phaneuf on the play.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Phaneuf will forfeit $66,666.66. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

This is about right. Carter Ashton and Kevin Westgarth both earned two games for their boarding incidents; this Phaneuf play didn’t rise to the level of Maxim Lapierre on Dan Boyle or Cody McLeod on Niklas Kronwall, by which we of course mean there wasn’t a stretcher involved.
Classic boarding suspension: forearm to the numbers, skating over to make the hit, hard impact on the boards.
And in the end, the Department of Player Safety does what it should do for the NHL, which is make up for the mistakes of its on-ice officials – how does Phaneuf not get a penalty here in the first place, besides abject incompetence from the referees?
