Devils acquire Salvador from Blues for Janssen

It's not so much the St. Louis Blues are waiving the white flag, but Monday's signing of Barret Jackman to a four-year, $14-million deal made fellow defenseman Bryce Salvador available. The 32-year-old, who had spent his entire seven NHL seasons and 447 career games with the Blues, brings a physical, playoff-style element to the Devils' blueline.

Salvador, due to be an unrestricted free agent on July 1, has 36 games of Stanley Cup experience, but none since the 2003-04 season. The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder is remembered for scoring the winning goal in overtime of Game 5 of the first round series against San Jose that season.

The 23-year-old Janssen, on injured reserve since Jan. 29 with a shoulder injury, returns to the team that plays in his hometown. He's a physical right wing who has just one goal in 95 career games. Janssen, 5-11, 205, with 27 fighting majors, has two years left on a deal that pays $550,000 annually
