Darryl Sydor arrested for drunk driving, child endangerment

The NHL’s awesomest off-ice summer EVER continues.

Former NHL defenseman and current Minnesota Wild assistant coach Darryl Sydor was arrested on Thursday night on suspicion of driving drunk with his 12-year-old son in the car, Friedly (Minn.) police told KSTP.

He was driving his son to youth hockey game.

From KSTP:

Sydor's blood alcohol level was 0.30, Monsrud said; he is expected to appear in court Friday on drunk driving and child endangerment charges.

Monsrud said Sydor failed a field sobriety test and displayed slow and slurred speech. Police gave the boy a ride to the hockey game. Sydor has four children, according to information on the team's website.

Sydor remains in Anoka County Jail.

It shoud be said that blowing a 0.30 is an extremely dangerous and high BAC. More from the Star Tribune on the arrest is here, including the fact that Sydor had referred to himself previously as "a recovering alcoholic."

Sydor played 11 seasons with the Dallas Stars, winning the Stanley Cup with them in 1999, as well as the Los Angeles Kings, Columbus Blue Jackets, Tampa Bay Lightning, Pittsburgh Penguins and St. Louis Blues – 1,291 games in total, before retiring in 2010. He’s been with the Wild for the last four seasons with coach Mike Yeo.

Said the Wild, in a statement: "We are aware of the reports regarding Darryl Sydor. We are continuing to gather information and will have further comment at the appropriate time."

In other NHL driving while intoxicated news, Ryan O’Reilly of the Buffalo Sabres will have his court date on Sept. 10 for crashing his truck into a Tim Horton’s.
