Danny Briere beats buzzer for Avs, sends Bruins to 3rd straight loss(Video)

Coming into Monday’s matinee, Danny Briere had 42 points in 50 games against the Boston Bruins during his career, with 14 goals. None of them were game-winners; No. 15 was, and it was a huge one for the Colorado Avalanche.

After getting curb-stomped by the Minnesota Wild in the season opener and getting shut out for a second straight game by the Wild in the next contest, the Avalanche limped into Boston needing a jumpstart to their season. Perhaps Briere provided it: Scoring with 0.4 seconds left to take two points at TD Garden, giving Colorado its first win of the season, a 2-1 victory.

Jan Hejda’s wrist shot was saved by Niklas Svedberg, but the rebound went to Danny Briere, who was all alone in front for the goal just four ticks before overtime. It was career goal No. 300 for Briere. Not a bad way to get it.

In case you were a little cloudy watching this clip: No, the Bruins weren’t on a penalty kill and, yes, Briere was that wide open. That might have something to do with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand both apparently covering the point shot. Or discussing Columbus Day dinner plans in the North End.

Wonder how Chara will react to that one. Because for the first time in 145 games, the Bruins have lost three in a row in regulation. 

For the record: Jarome Iginla’s return to Boston had him pointless and a plus-1 with no shots on goal.
