Capitals goalie Braden Holtby’s mother: country music star

During the Washington Capitals' run in the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs, rookie goalie Braden Holtby's mother Tami has become the symbol of all fan frustration, trepidation and adulation — reacting with an Improv class's worth of emotions while her son tends goal.

If her reactions seem theatrical, well, there might be a reason for that: Before she became the Capitals' most famous hockey mom, she was Tami Hunter Holtby, Canadian country music singer.

Japers' Rink dug up some bio information on Mrs. Holtby (as well as the album cover seen here). From Lloydminster.net:

Tami has been climbing the steps to her goal of being a contender in the Canadian music scene - not only as an artist, but also as a manager, music publisher and album producer.

As an artist, Tami has released and written two albums with singles doing very well across Canada, one video and several TV specials. She was Saskatchewan's Female Vocalist for 1996 and also accumulated many nominations in different categories. Tami and her band, Walkin' After Midnight (Saskatchewan's Back-up band of the year), have travelled extensively through Western Canada playing at different venues with artists including Charlie Major, Jason McCoy, Lisa Brokop and many more. Tami has definitely established a name for herself as an artist in Canada.

The promotions company run by Tami and Greg Holtby is called TARYDEN Records, a combination of their daughter Taryn and son Braden's names. Please recall that Braden Holtby just welcomed his newborn son Benjamin Hunter Holtby into the world on Thursday, his middle name in honor of his grandmother's maiden name.

More from Japers' on the story here. He guesses she's a sassy Shania Twain vocalist. We have no reason to disagree.

You know, if you're one to believe that the team with the best storylines for the championship Blu-Ray at the end of the postseason is the one that wins the Cup … Hunter Hockey, Ovechkin's ice time, Braden Holtby and his baby, Karl Alzner and his dogs, the Thomas/Obama fans thing, Joel Ward … just sayin'.
