Blackhawks vs. Lightning Stanley Cup Preview: Who has the better special teams?

CHICAGO, IL - JUNE 12: Lightning strikes the Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) in downtown on June 12, 2013 in Chicago, Illinois. A massive storm system with heavy rain, high winds, hail and possible tornadoes is expected to move into Illinois and much of the central part of the Midwest today. Leading up to Wednesday's Game 1, Puck Daddy is previewing every facet of the Stanley Cup Final between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Tampa Bay Lightning — on the ice and off the ice.

POWER PLAY

Tampa’s power play comes into the Stanley Cup Final on fire, crushing the Rangers at a 32 percent clip in their seven-game Eastern Conference Final series against New York. In the first six games of the Western Conference Final against the Ducks, Chicago had just three goals with the man-advantage, but had two in the deciding contest. It always amazes me that a group that has Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Duncan Keith on PP1 doesn’t score EVERY time. I thought those guys weren’t human. Alas, they are.

For the Lightning Stamkos is the hammer. Tampa tries to set him up for his vicious one-timer with the man-advantage.

Both fivesomes are dynamic for both teams. Slight advantage goes to Chicago because of the star power.

Advantage: Blackhawks

PENALTY KILL

Chicago has one of the best defensive forwards in the league in Marian Hossa, who just seems to know how to strip players of the puck and get in passing lanes. In the playoffs though, Chicago has been at 75.5 percent on the PK, which is not wonderful. Against Anaheim, the Blackhawks allowed only three goals, but that's because they only put themselves shorthanded 16 times.

Tampa had the second-best penalty kill amongst conference finalists at 81.2 percent. Gotta go with them, just because they’ve been a bit steadier over the course of the postseason.

Advantage: Lightning
