Aaron Ward arrested for domestic assault, suspended from TSN

WRAL

Aaron Ward, the former NHL defenseman and current TSN analyst, was arrested on Friday in Cary, North Carolina, and charged with "assault against a woman," according to WNCN. He was also charged with “interfering with emergency communication,” a law that you can read more about here.

According to WRAL, Ward was arrested at his home:

According to police, Ward's wife called 911 after the two had a confrontation around 1 p.m.

According to the warrant for his arrest, he took away his wife's phone.

Because of the nature of his charges, Ward will spend a mandatory 48 hours in the Wake County jail. Anyone arrested on a domestic violence charge is held for 48 hours before bail is set.

Luke DeCock of the News Observer initially tweeted that Ward's wife, Kelly, was arrested for simple assault, which is a misdemeanor. Kelly Ward was cited and released, according to DeCock. He then tweeted that the charge was rescinded. Aaron Ward remains in a county jail for 48 hours.

TSN released a statement late Friday after the arrest was made public:

We are aware of the situation and the seriousness of the charges. As a result, Aaron Ward will not appear on-air until further notice.

Ward played 839 games in the NHL with the Carolina Hurricanes and Detroit Red Wings – winning a Stanley Cup with both – as well as the New York Rangers, Boston Bruins and Anaheim Ducks

He retired in 2010 and became a studio analyst for TSN in 2011.
