The 10 best shootout goals of 2013 (Puck Daddy Year In Review)

(Puck Daddy presents its annual look back at the year in hockey. Check back every day through the New Year for our many lists and hot takes.)

After 65 minutes of hockey, the NHL has determined that a best-of-3 shootout competition shall take place to determine a winner. Sure, we'd love to see more actual, you know, hockey, but the shootout does allow for some players to show off their creativity.

During the 1994 Olympic gold medal game, Peter Forsberg popularized Kent Nilsson's slick move he pulled off versus the U.S. in 1989. All these years later, the move hasn't been forgotten, as showcased by John Tavares, Mikhail Grabovski, Jonathan Huberdeau, and Nikita Kucherov, among others in 2013.

But while the Forsberg/Nilsson move is always pretty to see, 10 other players went into their trick bags to give us the top 10 shootout goals of 2013.

10. Vladimir Tkachyov, KHL Ak Bars Kazan scrimmage

A preseason intra-squad scrimmage shootout saw Tkachyov spin his way onto our list:

9. Mason Raymond vs. Columbus (March 13)

The spin-o-rama move has become Raymond's baby and whenever he does it, controversy follows, whether it was this attempt or one this season vs. Ottawa.

8. Mike Ribeiro vs. Anaheim Ducks (October 18)

Ribeiro loves the shootout, and he's shown what he can do 1-on-1 in the past. The creative juices get flowing, as he showcased against the Ducks:

7. Carter Frost

One day, when I grow up, I hope to have as much skill as 9-year old Carter Frost. During an intermission shootout, he pulled off the pick-up-the-puck-and-spin shot with success:

6. Sam Gagner vs. Phoenix Coyotes (February 22)

It takes a lot to make Mike Smith look funny while attempting to make a save, and Gagner's dangles were just the thing to do that. From the moment of Gagner's first movement, Smith bites and cannot recover:

5. Artem Voronin vs. Almaz (March 8)

Jori Lehtera made this slick little move famous during the KHL's All-Star Skills Competition. But it's pretty obvious he was given a little help from the goaltender. Artem Voronin, however, pulled this move off for MHC Spartak during a 4-3 shootout win over Almaz in the KHL's junior league:

4. Zach Parise vs. Carolina Hurricanes (November 9)

No matter how hard Justin Peters would try, he could never, ever not fall victim to the Parise leg kick.

3. Patrick Kane vs. Minnesota Wild (March 12) Detroit (March 3)

Kane's go-to move is the slow down/dangle approach, which as you can see, totally fooled Niklas Backstrom Jimmy Howard:

2. Claude Giroux vs. New York Islanders (March 28)

You need good hands to pull the move Giroux did here and fortunately for the Flyers' forward, he has them. The trickiest part is the finish: making sure you get enough puck to flip it over the out-stretched pad of the goaltender:

1. Pavel Datsyuk vs. Traktor (January 6)

During the NHL lockout, Datsyuk played with CSKA Moscow of the KHL. The day Gary Bettman and Donald Fehr announced the good news, Datsyuk played his final game with the team and ended it in spectacular fashion:
