The University of Miami graduation ceremonies took a somber turn on Thursday night as Racquel Smith, the widow of slain retired NFL standout Will Smith received his MBA on his behalf.

Racquel, who was shot in both of her legs during the attack in New Orleans on April 9 that killed Will, was in a wheelchair and can be seen wiping tears as she is presented with the degree on stage.

As she is wheeled away, the crowd cheers loudly.

The Saints posted a brief video of the exchange on their Twitter page.

Will Smith was part of an 18-month executive MBA program for Artists and Athletes offered by Miami.

According to the Miami website, the specialized program "teaches accomplished individuals with strong personal brands how to leverage their current career achievements into business success."

In addition to advancing his education, Smith was set to work with the Saints' staff as a coaching intern this year.
