Stedman Bailey expected to survive, according to Rams coach Jeff Fisher

St. Louis Rams receiver Stedman Bailey is expected to survive from gunshot wounds he suffered this week, head coach Jeff Fisher said on Sirius XM Radio on Friday.

Bailey, 24, was in serious but stable condition after being shot twice in the head during what appeared to be a drive-by shooting in Miami Gardens, Fla., on Tuesday night. He underwent surgery after the shooting and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

Teammates and other NFL players expressed their shock and sent well wishes when the news broke of the shooting.

It has been a strange and strained season for the Rams, who emerged as contenders when Todd Gurley started to break out but have fallen back after losing three straight with a trip to face the 8-2 Cincinnati Bengals on tap for Sunday. There also was the controversy of quarterback Case Keenum being allowed to play through what later was diagnosed as a concussion in Week 11 against the Baltimore Ravens.

But in what could be the final season in St. Louis for the Rams, roundly rumored to be enamored with a move to Los Angeles, the Bailey news was the most jarring. The fact that he's expected to survive despite being struck by multiple shots to the head is incredibly good news all things considered.

The Rams have yet to make a roster move with Bailey, who remains suspended until Week 14 for violating the league's substance abuse policy, but the third-year wideout is expected to be placed on injured reserve at that time.
