Denver Broncos' Wes Welker suffered third concussion in 10 months

Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker suffered a concussion on Saturday night against the Houston Texans, head coach John Fox confirmed. It's believed to be at least Welker's third concussion in the past 10 months.

The concussion occurred on a play near the end of the first half when Texans safety D.J. Swearinger led with his shoulder but hit Welker with his head. Welker came off and was tested for a concussion. Welker suffered two concussions last season with the Broncos, his first in Denver, and had to be outfitted with a special helmet after returning in the postseason following a five-week absence.

"Obviously, I'm concerned about Wes," Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning said. "Never like seeing him come out of the game with a potential blow to the head. He had one of those last year that kept him out for a while, so I was concerned about him."

Manning was more than concerned — he was mad. At the end of the drive on which Swearinger hit Welker, Manning hit Emmanuel Sanders for a touchdown pass and then Manning went up to Swearinger to express his displeasure with the way he hit Manning's receiver. Manning was assessed a taunting penalty for that.

There was no immediate word on how long Welker might be out of action, but this obviously cannot be good.
