Richard Sherman will play in Super Bowl while still waiting on son's birth

Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman put a scare into Seattle fans, hinting he could miss the Super Bowl due to his girlfriend potentially giving birth to their son on Sunday, and while coach Pete Carroll left the decision up to his three-time first-team All-Pro defensive back, the baby is making that choice even easier.

Sherman told reporters earlier this week, "He's going to be a disciplined young man and stay in there until after the game," and indeed that appears to be the case. The Seahawks star, who is also nursing an arm injury, texted Sports Illustrated's Peter King to nobody's surprise: "I am playing in the Super Bowl."

It was hard to imagine Sherman would miss the entire Super Bowl, even if his son was born before the Super Bowl. His girlfriend, Ashley Moss, remains in Phoenix, and it obviously remains a possibility the baby could still come on Sunday, since newborns don't always stick to the NFL schedule.

Maybe Sherman will even have some good news for his first child when the boy finally does arrive.
