Report: Dolphins fire defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle

The Miami Dolphins have fired defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle, three days after the team parted ways with head coach Joe Philbin, NFL Network's Albert Breer reported Thursday.

The move was expected, though delayed. The Dolphins signed big-money free agent Ndamukong Suh in the offseason, adding him to an alread-strong defensive line, and after four weeks, the team is dead last in the NFL against the run, allowing 160.5 yards per game, nearly 20 yards per game more than 31st ranked Cleveland (141.5).

Miami's defense is ranked 30th overall.

Not long after, news broke that the team is promoting defensive backs coach Lou Anarumo to coordinator. Anarumo, 49, has been with the club since 2012.

Last week, in the days before Miami lost to the New York Jets in London, Dolphins defensive players reportedly held a meeting with Coyle, frustrated by his schemes. They had lost confidence in Coyle, who came to Miami with Philbin in 2012, and asked him to simplify things, allowing the players to play, and also questioned some of his personnel and play-time decisions.

Breer tweeted on Wednesday that Miami had discussed replacing Coyle with Jim Schwartz, Mike Smith and Greg Schiano.
