Reggie Wayne going to New England, agrees to deal with Patriots

The New England Patriots are hoping that Reggie Wayne still has one more good season left in his great career.

The Patriots and Wayne, the long-time Indianapolis Colts receiver who is likely headed to the Pro Football Hall of Fame someday, agreed to a one-year deal according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

It's an interesting move. Wayne is a six-time Pro Bowler, but looked like he was at the end last season. He was coming off ACL surgery, turned 36 years old in November, and had his worst season since very early in his career. Despite catching passes from Andrew Luck, Wayne had just 64 receptions on 116 targets, for 779 yards and two touchdowns. Wayne was a still a contributor, but nothing like the elite receiver who has collected 14,345 yards and 80 touchdowns in the NFL.

The Patriots have had luck with old veterans before, however. And with many of their receivers at the back of the depth chart banged up, they needed some help. While this seems like an old vet finishing with an odd final team (Tim Brown with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or Jerry Rice with the Seattle Seahawks anyone?), the Patriots obviously see a fit.
