Panthers' most famous fan, Steph Curry, to bang #KeepPounding drum

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The Bay Area's most famous Carolina Panthers fan is getting a special role in Super Bowl 50.

Really, Stephen Curry might be the most famous Panthers fan anywhere, and it's never a bad thing to have your football team be in the presence of the NBA's top player.

The Panthers have a "Keep Pounding" tradition, in honor of the late linebacker Sam Mills, who told his team to "keep pounding" in an emotional pregame speech in a playoff at the end of the 2003 season. After the coin toss, a special guest pounds a huge drum four times, one for each quarter.

And for the Super Bowl, Curry will do the honors.

Curry is from Charlotte. His dad Dell is a Hornets legend. He's an unabashed Panthers fan and pounded the drum before a Panthers home regular-season game this season. He's buddies with Cam Newton (they can compare MVP trophies now) and even wore Panthers blue shoes in Saturday's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Curry has an MVP and a championship ring. His friend Newton earned his first MVP on Saturday night. Curry will be rooting for Newton and his Panthers to join him in the champions club on Sunday.
