Oakland Raiders return to O.co Coliseum for at least 2016

Remember all the emotion at the final home games for the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers last season? Get ready to do it all again in 2016.

The Chargers announced they're staying in San Diego for the 2016 season, and the Raiders came to an agreement on Thursday to play at least one more year at O.co Coliseum, the team announced. The Raiders said there are also two years of team options at O.co Coliseum.

That the Raiders are staying in Oakland at least one more season is not a huge surprise. After the Raiders were the odd team out in the Los Angeles sweepstakes, they needed some place to play. Oakland's stadium is probably the worst in the NFL, but it'll do for another year while the Raiders figure things out.

The Raiders were squeezed out of the L.A. plans, at least for now. The Rams relocated to Los Angeles, and the Chargers have the option of joining them. The Chargers have a year to figure it out. If they pass, the Raiders have the option to join the Rams in Inglewood. It's not ideal for the Raiders, but they don't have a great option at the moment. Oakland hasn't delivered a great stadium plan. San Antonio and Las Vegas seem more like leverage than realistic options. San Diego has been suggested if the Chargers leave, but if San Diego won't build a stadium to keep the Chargers, why would they build one to lure the Raiders?

So the Raiders are left without an idea where they'll be playing a few years from now. But at least we know where they're playing next season. For all the talk of how the Raiders and Chargers were saying goodbye to their cities, they'll return for at least another year. And it'll feel the exact same way, with fans in each city hoping the team stays but having no idea if it will actually do so.

We thought for a while there would be a massive shift, with three of the 32 NFL franchises moving. Only one did, for now anyway.
