More bad Jaguars news: Blake Bortles has injured shoulder

Even when there's something positive with the Jacksonville Jaguars lately, the black cloud suddenly forms again over their heads.

One good story line out of a 38-31 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday was the play of second-year quarterback Blake Bortles. Bortles had easily the best game of his career with 303 yards and four touchdowns. And now Bortles is hurt.

Bortles has a Grade 1 AC joint sprain in his shoulder, the team announced. Coach Gus Bradley was optimistic, saying "We think he should be in good shape," and to not be alarmed if Bortles doesn't practice Wednesday. But Indianapolis Colts coach Chuck Pagano's shenanigans in misleading everyone on Andrew Luck's shoulder injury reminds us to not believe everything at face value.

If you want to remain optimistic as a Jaguars fan, it's that Bortles suffered the injury through the game and played through it. That says something about his toughness, although that hasn't been a big question for him. He has played behind a bad line, taken a lot of punishment and hasn't missed a start due to injury. That Bortles bounced back so well off a bad performance the week before at Indianapolis, and do so while his shoulder was injured, was a positive sign.

Hopefully Bortles' injury isn't a big deal, as Bradley says, and he plays without any issue. At 1-4, coming off a disheartening loss to the Buccaneers, the Jaguars don't need more bad news.
