Mike Pettine says Browns could draft two QBs; Carr 'best natural thrower' in draft

The Cleveland Browns appear to be enjoying keeping everyone guessing as to their plans at quarterback.

New head coach Mike Pettine kept the mystery train rolling with a few interesting possible red herrings as it relates to the draft. Pettine even said the Browns could draft two quarterbacks this year, a la the 2012 Washington Redskins with Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins.

In addition, Pettine was asked his thoughts about the draft's top quarterbacks. His quick takes:

• On Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel: "a gifted playmaker."

• On Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater: "extremely accurate, cerebral."

• On Central Florida's Blake Bortles: "If you said, 'Draw me an NFL quarterback,' that's probably who you'd draw."

• On Fresno State's Derek Carr, about whom Pettine appeared to have the strongest endorsement: "best natural thrower in draft."

Pettine and general manager Ray Farmer will skip Manziel's pro day on Thursday, as they have with the rest of the group's pro days. The duo also skipped meeting with any draft-eligible quarterback at the combine, saying they plan to meet with and work out the top quarterbacks they are interested in at different times.

The Browns currently have only Brian Hoyer at quarterback after releasing Jason Campbell and Brandon Weeden. Hoyer could start -- Pettine said the Browns would be "comfortable" with that --  but the talk of drafting two quarterbacks indicates that the team has different long-term plans at the position.

We think. It's hard to know what the Browns are thinking these days.
