Jordy Nelson exits Sunday’s game with a right ankle injury

The Green Bay Packers received some good news on Sunday morning when wide receiver Jordy Nelson's hamstring was determined to be healthy enough to not only play, but start against the Arizona Cardinals. Nelson had missed last Sunday's 24-15 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars and all of the Packers' practices last week, with the club listing him as "questionable" on Friday's injury report.

Nelson's return to the lineup would be short-lived, however, as the fifth-year wideout would exit with a right ankle injury while sliding in an attempt to make a five-yard reception with 5:39 to play in the first quarter on Sunday. (The play would be ruled a reception, but was overturned after it was challenged by Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt)

The Packers announced that Nelson would be "questionable" to return, but with the team heading into their bye week, they shut him down the remainder of the game. Part of the decision by the Packers' medical and coaching staffs to sit Nelson for the remainder of the game could be attributed to the current status of Greg Jennings.

Jennings injured his groin in the season-opener and missed the team's Week 2 game against the Chicago Bears. Jennings returned to catch six passes for 35 yards in Week 3 before re-injuring his groin in Week 4. Jennings has missed the last five games and underwent surgery last week that could cost him a few more games during his contract year.

With Nelson and Jennings out, the Packers had James Jones and Randall Cobb as the top two receivers after Nelson's injury. Cobb and quarterback Aaron Rodgers hooked up on touchdown passes of 13 and 21 yards in the first half, which gives Cobb six touchdowns on the season, second on the team behind Jones, who hauled in his eight touchdown of the season, a 28-yard strike from Rodgers right after the two-minute warning in the first half .

In other Packers' injury news, right tackle Bryan Bulaga left the game in the second quarter with a hip injury. Bulaga was also ruled out for the remainder of the game, prompting the Packers to move left guard T.J. Lang to right tackle and insert Evan Dietrich-Smith to left guard.
