Johnny Manziel's ex-girlfriend now wants to pursue charges

Dallas Police put out a statement on Friday saying that troubled Cleveland Browns Johnny Manziel will be investigated for a complaint of domestic violence assault, after all.

Last Saturday, Manziel and his ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley were involved in an altercation. Manziel wasn't charged then and the case was deemed closed by Dallas Police. More details emerged on Thursday, including allegations from Crowley that Manziel hit her repeatedly and threatened to kill them both, and the Dallas Police Department said "investigative efforts to date have not resulted in the filing of a criminal complaint and the incident is determined to be closed."

Rebecca Lopez of WFAA said Crowley gave a statement to the DPD and wanted the district attorney to file charges. Here's the Dallas Police Department's statement:

Following yesterday’s release, today the Dallas Police Department received a complaint of a domestic violence assault that occurred in Dallas on January 30, 2016.  A criminal investigation into the incident, in which Johnathan Manziel is the listed suspect, has been initiated.  Detectives will thoroughly investigate the case to determine what criminal charges, if any, will be filed and victim services will be offered.

As there are many emotional factors involved, it is not uncommon for a victim of domestic violence to question or delay reporting an assault.  This is an on-going investigation and updates will be made as information becomes available.

Crowley was depicted in the police report as becoming uncooperative as authorities questioned her, and she wouldn't fill out a statement or make a report, and wouldn't let officers to photograph her or her injuries.

On Friday a judge issued a protective order for Manziel to stay away from Crowley for two years and pay $12,000 in legal fees, Lopez of WFAA reported. Crowley filed an application for the order Wednesday and said Manziel was "likely to commit family violence against me if a protective order is not granted," the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported.

Manziel was dropped by his agent, the Browns made clear they will cut him in March and Manziel's father said, "I truly believe if they can't get him help, he won't live to see his 24th birthday." Now he'll be part of a criminal investigation.
