Jerry Jones doubles down on Greg Hardy's dumb 'guns blazing' comments

Before Wednesday, defensive end Greg Hardy hadn't spoken at length with the media since the Dallas Cowboys signed him, and now we know why.

Hardy made some unbelievable comments on Wednesday. He said he would come out after his four-game suspension "guns blazing," an odd choice of words because he missed 15 games last season during a court battle in which he was accused of pushing his girlfriend on a bed full of weapons. Maybe you can chalk that up to a regrettable word choice on the fly, but then he made comments about Tom Brady's wife and her sister, which is out of line no matter what your line of work is.

"I love seeing Tom Brady. You seen his wife? I hope she comes to the game," Hardy said. "I hope her sister comes to the game ..."

We understand why Hardy is in the NFL. He can rush the quarterback well. It's not because anyone thinks he'll win the Walter Payton Man of the Year award. He's here to play football and not because anyone believes he's a great citizen. But Cowboys owner Jerry Jones should have a little higher standard, right?

Well, Jones doubled down on Hardy's dumb comments, after first uttering "Oh my goodness," (which is a more appropriate reaction) to SI.com.

“Well, you’re not allowed to have guns on the football field. We all know that’s just a way of expressing yourself. I hope his guns are ablazin’,” Jones said.

Ugh. But what about the comments about Brady's wife?

“When I saw him marry her [Gisele], Tom went up in my eyes 100%. She’s very very attractive and it shows what an outstanding individual Tom is," Jones told SI.com.

The NFL world has gone mad.

Fox Sports' Katie Nolan handled this all pretty well in a great rant that has gone viral, and she sums up how Hardy's comments reflect terribly on the league. The NFL has to be better than this.
