Green Bay Packers fan gets season tickets after spending 37 years on waiting list
They say all good things come to those who wait, but it took 37 long years for Brad Sauve to appreciate the full meaning of that maxim. The Green Bay Packers fan put his name on the waiting list for season tickets in 1976, but didn't hear his name called until earlier this week.
"Got a letter from the Packers today," Sauve proudly tweeted on Feb. 9. "I am now a season ticket holder. Section 128 Row 41."
Sauve's good news came with an invoice. He'll have to pay a one-time fee of $4,200 for the right to purchase the tickets, plus $2,380 per season for two tickets to seven games. (Season ticket holders from the Packers days in Milwaukee's County Stadium own ticket rights to the other three games on the 10-game home schedule.)
Despite the steep price to sit in the corner of the end zone, Sauve didn't balk at the cost. Packers tickets are a closely guarded family treasure in Wisconsin and the list currently numbers 105,000. As one of an estimated 100 or so lucky letter receivers, there's no way Sauve was about to hit the back of the line.
Lambeau Field wasn’t even 20 years old when Sauve signed up for tickets after attending a training camp practice, and he was approximately No. 7,500 on the list.
Sauve was offered gold-package season tickets in the 1990s but declined because he wanted more than three games per season.
By last year, he climbed to No. 15 on the list and knew his dream was imminent.
The good news for those creeping up the waiting list is that the impending expansion of Lambeau Field will allow an additional 3,500 names to be called when it's completed. Given that many of those names were added during "The Dark Ages" of the late '70s/early '80s, there's no doubt they're true fans who will have earned a spot on the stadium's famed and frigid benches come winter.
