Ex-Patriots LB Brandon Spikes' AFC title ring appears on eBay (Update)

A day after the New England Patriots received their Super Bowl rings, a former Patriot's ring is for sale.

The 2011 AFC championship ring of linebacker Brandon Spikes, who was recently released by the team after being cited in a hit-and-run accident, recently surfaced on eBay and was sold for $19,499.

Spikes’ name and number appear on the ring and the auction includes an appraisal that says the 14-karat white gold ring is valued at $18,000. The ring also has nearly 70 “solitaire cut diamonds.”

According to ESPN's Adam Caplan, Spikes' representatives say the ring "was stolen."

Spikes was drafted by the Patriots in the second round in 2010 and spent the first four seasons of his career with the team. He then spent the 2014 season with the Buffalo Bills before re-signing with New England in May.

Spikes’ second stint in New England lasted only for a few weeks after his car was found crashed and abandoned on a Massachusetts highway. A few days later, Spikes was cited for speeding, negligent driving, leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in injuries and failing to stay in marked lanes. Police say Spikes crashed into the back of an SUV, inflicting minor injuries to a man, woman and their 12-year-old son.

Spikes will be summonsed to appear in Wrentham District Court at a to-be-determined date.
