DeAngelo Williams did not like the Redskins’ ‘Homecoming’ game idea

It's never wise to give your opponent material with which to incentivize themselves, especially when you're trying to save a season that's rapidly going down the drain. But that's what the Washington Redskins apparently did with the nod to former players organized by the franchise. Several Redskins greats were honored, and the team wore some pretty cool 1937 throwbacks for the occasion.

However, Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams was categorically unimpressed by the concept -- or, at the very least, how the concept was packaged and marketed. You see, the Redskins portrayed this as a "Homecoming," and this went quite a large distance up Mr. Williams' nose.

After the 21-13 Panthers win, Williams, who scored a 30-yard touchdown in the game, went off.

"It was the whole team," Williams continued, via our buddy Dan Steinberg at the always-outstanding D.C. Sports Bog. "It was the whole team. That was definitely motivating. I mean, you don't say you're gonna have a homecoming in the National Football League. I mean, you do it in college. It's [against] one of those teams that's just terrible. You don't book a good team for homecoming….I don't know if they had a dance or anything; I just know you don't give a team extra motivation by putting that on your program, just blatantly coming out and saying you're our homecoming game."

So ... yeah. Just a note, Redskins. That was a nice idea, but you should re-consider the way to put this stuff out there. If you've ever seen "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," you'll know that homecoming games can go very, very wrong in a big hurry.
