Darrelle Revis says the Buccaneers are going to make ‘a lot of noise’

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers introduced cornerback Darrelle Revis to the media less than 24 hours after acquiring the four-time Pro Bowler from the New York Jets in exchange for a 2013 first-round pick and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2014.

The Buccaneers also signed Revis to a six-year, $96 million contract, pulling the cornerback even with Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams as the highest-paid defensive player in the National Football League. Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik and head coach Greg Schiano both referred to Revis as the best defensive back in the game, and Revis is eager to get to work on a team he thinks can make the playoffs.

“I’m going to do my best, that’s how I work," Revis said. "That's my work ethic. I work hard. I want to bring as much leadership to this team as I can. The biggest goal I think we all have here is to win and there’s no better place to win than here. I thank you for the opportunity, so let’s go win some games.

"We’re going to make a lot of noise, don’t worry about that," Revis said after thanking all parties involved in bringing him to the Buccaneers, including the Glazer family. "The intangibles we have here with this team with players like Josh Freeman, Vincent Jackson and Doug Martin – I could go down the list. We have some great guys and that was one of the things that me and my team looked at. We have some guys here that can already play and I think that's the best fit for me.

"I think they (the Buccaneers) were a playoff team even before me being part of the Buc nation," Revis said.

Revis is coming off a torn ACL in his left knee and declined to comment on the status of his rehabilitation, which will continue with the Buccaneers' medical staff in Tampa. Revis said that the he felt that the Jets gave up on him after he suffered his injury in Week 2 of the 2012 season.

“It feels like that team is giving up on you. At a time in my career where I’ve never had an injury like this,” Revis said. “I’m human. I have feelings just like everybody in this room. Especially at a time where I was injured. I didn’t know what to expect."

Revis said he does not have a chip on his shoulder, but he won't have to wait long to face the Jets, who will host the Buccaneers at MetLife Stadium in the regular season-opener on Sept. 8.

“I don’t have nothing to prove to the New York Jets," said Revis. "I have nothing to prove to anybody."
