Concussions for Michael Vick, Jay Cutler and Alex Smith headline Week 10 injury roundup

Below is a run-down of the injury situations that Shutdown Corner will be monitoring before Week 11:

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick exited Sunday's 38-23 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in the second game with a concussion. Vick was replaced in the lineup by rookie Nick Foles, but Eagles head coach Andy Reid said that Vick would remain the starter, provided that he is healthy. Entering Sunday, Vick had not missed a snap this season.

In addition to Vick, Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler sat out the second half of a 13-6 loss to the Houston Texans with a concussion. Cutler was hit by linebacker Tim Dobbins after delivering an illegal forward pass with just under three minutes remaining in the first half. Cutler remained in the game, scrambling for 11 yards on the following play. Cutler also took the snaps on the Bears' final possession before the end of the half, totaling seven plays with a concussion.

Bears first-round defensive end Shea McClellin left Sunday night's game in the first quarter, also with a concussion.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith left Sunday's 24-24 tie with the St. Louis Rams with a concussion. Smith took a hard shot from Rams linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar late in the first quarter, but remained in the game and completed five passes, including a touchdown pass to Michael Crabtree. Smith reportedly suffered the concussion while attempting a quarterback sneak on a fourth-and-1, but stayed in the game for six plays before completing the touchdown pass to Crabtree and giving way to 2011 second-round pick Colin Kaepernick.

"From what I've been told by the doctors and the trainers it seems like it was the quarterback sneak," head coach Jim Harbaugh said after the game, according to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.

Detroit Lions defensive end Cliff Avril suffered a concussion on the opening series of the second half in the Lions' 34-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Lions cornerback Chris Houston suffered a sprained right ankle on a play the veteran alleges was dirty in nature, reports Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

"A lineman just fell on my ankle on purpose," Houston said. "I went to cut him and he was flying open and as he went down he put both his knees on my ankle on purpose. But it's part of the game. I'll be OK."

Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson may have a concussion of his own, the team's official website reports. If so, Jackson would be unlikely to play in Thursday night's game against the Miami Dolphins.

With a tough slate of games on the horizon, the Baltimore Ravens held defensive tackle Haloti Ngata out of Sunday's 55-20 win over the Oakland Raiders. Ngata, who dressed and was available to play, is battling knee and shoulder injuries.

Scary scene in Tampa as Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Quincy Black was carted off the field with a neck injury after a helmet-to-helmet collision with San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews. Black, who is in the second year of a five-year, $29 million contract, may not play again this season, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. In the first quarter of the Buccaneers' 34-24 win over the Chargers, starting cornerback Eric Wright left with an ankle injury and would not return.

The New England Patriots frequently list the most players on their practice participation and injury reports. A few familiar names should remain in the weeks ahead. Left guard Logan Mankins left Sunday's 37-31 win over the Bills in the third quarter with a left ankle injury. Right guard Dan Connolly injured his back in the second quarter.

Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil will undergo an MRI on his left shoulder on Monday. According to The Denver Post, Dumervil felt something strain in the back of his shoulder in Sunday's 36-14 win over the Carolina Panthers, during which Dumervil picked up his seventh sack and forced his fifth fumble of the season.

Oft-injured New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw had X-rays on a body part other than his perpetually injured foot, which were negative. Giants wide receiver Domenik Hixon and safety Tyler Sash exited Sunday's 31-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals with ankle injuries.
