A tie game, 31 seconds left, the ball at your own 20-yard line and a rookie quarterback is a combination that would cause most coaches to stay conservative and play for overtime.

Instead, the Colts let Andrew Luck have his first big NFL moment.

Luck did his best John Elway, leading Indianapolis on a game-winning drive. Adam Vinatieri's 53-yard field goal gave the Colts their first win this season. Last season, Indianapolis' first win came on Dec. 18.

Luck stayed cool on the final drive. On the first play he rolled left and hit Donnie Avery for 20 yards. After a time out, Luck hit Reggie Wayne for 20 more. After a defensive offsides penalty, Vinatieri won it.

"Kid's got poise," Colts receiver Reggie Wayne told the Indianapolis Star. "Got some winning blood in his veins."

Luck completed 20-of-31 passes for 224 yards and two scores, but what will be remembered best about his first NFL win was what he did in the final minute to win the game. Washington's Robert Griffin III is rightfully getting a ton of attention for his great start to this season, but Griffin is in a better position to succeed right away as a rookie than Luck is with the Colts. Luck stepped into a franchise that was horrible last season and overhauled the roster in the offseason, but looks much more competitive this year, mostly because of its rookie quarterback.

"To get a win is something I really wanted for this team. ... We don't have that looming over us next week," Luck told NFL.com.
