Virginia WR Jamil Kamara decides to transfer

After just one season at Virginia, wide receiver Jamil Kamara has decided to leave the program.

Kamara, a four-star recruit in the 2014 class, announced his decision via Twitter on Friday.

Kamara played in four games for the Cavaliers as a true freshman last season and caught one pass for six yards against Richmond. He was listed on the second team on the depth chart coming out of spring practice.

Kamara told the Virginian-Pilot that he had concerns about the team’s style of offense.

“It was a real tough decision. I’ve been thinking about it for a couple of months and really thinking about it the past couple weeks,” he said. “I just didn’t feel like I could get the numbers within the offense. A lot of things went into it.”

Kamara told the Virginian-Pilot’s Ed Miller that he has no specific destination in mind, but hopes to play for a team “that was rated in the top 50 in the NCAA in passing yardage and has a veteran receiver who could mentor him.”

“I just want to sit back and see what schools are interested,” he said.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Kamara, a native of Virginia Beach, Va., was one of the highest-rated players in the state in the 2014 class. Rivals rated him as the sixth-best player in Virginia, 17th-best receiver and 123rd best player in the country in the 2014 class.

Kamara’s decision comes only a few weeks after quarterback Greyson Lambert decided to transfer. Despite starting nine games in 2014, Lambert was passed on the depth chart by Matt Johns.
