Virginia Tech’s season saved with last-second field goal

Cody Journell will be the most popular person in Blacksburg, Va., this weekend. After all, he did save Virginia Tech's season.

Journell hit a 29-yard field goal with 4 seconds remaining to give the Hokies a 17-14 win and more importantly a sixth victory for bowl eligibility.

Cornerback Antone Exum set up the game-winning drive by picking off Virginia quarterback Michael Rocco with just over 3 minutes remaining in the game.

Virginia Tech didn't exactly have the stellar season many were expecting and having to win the season finale against Virginia to earn a bowl berth isn't going to endear many people to coach Frank Beamer. But this is really the first subpar season the Hokies have had since 1992.

Prior to this year, Virginia Tech had won at least 10 games in every year since 2004 and had double-digit win seasons in 13 of the last 18 seasons. Even though the Hokies aren't going to be playing in a BCS bowl, at least they keep their postseason streak alive.
