Virginia Tech renames locker room in honor of Frank Beamer

Frank Beamer may have retired from the Virginia Tech program at the end of the 2015 season, but the university ensured that his name would not soon be forgotten.

Virginia Tech announced Tuesday night that it was renaming the Hokies team locker room "The Frank Beamer Locker Room."

The school will have a formal dedication when the new signs are in place.

The locker room was previously called "Team United Locker Room."

"The heart and soul of Virginia Tech football resides within the young men who will use this locker room," Beamer said in a release. "The locker room is a place where lifelong friendships form and teams grow stronger together. While this space will always belong to our student-athletes and Hokie Nation, if my name helps remind our student-athletes to give that extra effort on the field, study a little longer or do a good turn for a fellow Hokie, then I'm all for it."

Last August, Spring Road, which runs along the west side of Lane Stadium was renamed "Beamer Way" and the athletic department changed its address to 25 Beamer Way. The 25 is a tribute to the number Beamer wore as a player with the Hokies.

Beamer spent 29 years as the head coach of the Hokies. He amassed 238 wins with Virginia Tech and 280 wins as a collegiate head coach. Beamer is now the special assistant to the athletic director.
