UCF's O'Leary considering medical withdrawal for DB who was shot

Central Florida defensive back Chris Williams may miss the 2015 season.

Williams suffered two gunshot wounds to his left arm in an incident outside an Orlando bar. UCF coach George O'Leary said Wednesday that the injury would cause him to miss almost three months.

From UCFSports.com:

"With that injury alone, [it] was a eight- to-10 week injury, so I would say, again, I'm leaning more toward medical withdrawal to stop his eligibility so he doesn't have this year count and bring him back in January," O'Leary said regarding Williams' status. "The police are involved with what took place there, so it's really their response, not mine as far as what transpired."

O'Leary also said Williams had been discharged from the hospital on Monday and that he had placed WIlliams on medical leave from summer school. O'Leary is currently the school's interim athletic director in addition to being the football coach.

Williams  redshirted in 2014 and an additional redshirt and subsequent sixth-year of eligibility would be subject to a ruling by the NCAA. By withdrawing, he can re-enroll in January and still have four years to play.

Police obtained a search warrant to get the surveillance video of the incident from the bar last week to help with the investigation into the incident.

Williams was shot following an argument outside the bar at approximately 1 a.m. He posted to Facebook after the incident and said he was "good" after the shooting. He was a three-star recruit in the class of 2014.
