Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt has been added to the College Football Playoff selection committee.

Hocutt replaced former West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck, who recently took a position with the NCAA.

“I am excited and honored to join the College Football Playoff Selection Committee,” Hocutt said in a statement. “I look forward to working with such a distinguished group of individuals in what has instantly become one of our nation's most successful sporting events. I sincerely appreciate the confidence that Commissioner Bowlsby and the CFP management committee have placed in me with this appointment.”

The College Football Playoff selection committee, chaired by Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long, is responsible for selecting the four teams in the annual College Football Playoff, which decides a national champion. The group is made up of 13 members, who are all appointed to three-year terms. However, only 12 members voted last year because Archie Manning excused himself due to illness. It is unknown whether Manning will return for the 2015 season.

Hocutt was a linebacker at Kansas State under coach Bill Snyder in the early 1990s and has been Tech’s athletic director since March 2, 2011. He currently is the chairman of the NCAA Division I Football Recruiting Subcommittee and serves as the Big 12 representative on the NCAA Division I Leadership Council.
